Biography
Marie Jensen (she/her/hers) is a first-year MA student in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 2023 she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Germanic Languages and Literatures, English, and a minor in Jewish Studies with cum laude honors. During this time, she also completed her undergraduate honors thesis, A Case Study of Austrian and Taiwanese Historical, Cultural, and Linguistic Identity earning her Highest Distinction in German. She was also a member of the Marching Illini all four years.
Marie teaches GER 102 and her research interests include Asian German studies, sociolinguistics, pedagogy and second language acquisition, Holocaust and memory studies, and critical theory. Marie is a FLAS Fellow in the Center for Global Studies for year-long study of Mandarin Chinese, a Golden Apple Scholar of Illinois, and runs the GLL Instagram (follow us! @illinoisgermanic). In 2023 she attended the Goethe-Institut Summer Academy: Global Teaching and Learning in Bremen, Germany.
