Explore the German language in Austria from a sociolinguistic perspective. Topics include the linguistic history of Austria, pluricentricity and standard language variation, Austrian dialects, language contact and linguistic minorities, language policy, multilingualism, and second language pedagogy. Prerequisite: GER 212 or consent of instructor. Students who have previously taken 465 can enroll with consent of instructor, since course topics vary.
