From Gameplay to Poetics: Video Games and Contemporary (German) Literature
Dr. Philipp Weber, visiting professor from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany.
March 6, 2026

How do video games shape recent novels? This workshop invites students to discuss their own experiences with games while exploring short excerpts from contemporary fiction by Tonio Schachinger, Juan S. Guse, and Gabrielle Zevin. Together, we will examine how novels engage with gaming cultures, simulation, and virtual worlds – and whether video games have become a poetic resource of contemporary literature.
